Project: New Yard Temporary Roof & Shrink Wrap
Date: 2026
Location: Giant Storage, High Post, Salisbury SP4 6BG
Client: Whites Scaffolding Ltd
Sector: Commercial / Business Expansion
Scaffolding Type: Temporary Roof with Shrink Wrap Encapsulation
Project Time: 3 Weeks
Project Overview
As part of the move into our new high-specification yard near Salisbury, Whites Scaffolding required a substantial temporary roof structure to create a protected working area during the transition.
The project involved constructing a large scaffold roof over the main working space before fully encapsulating the structure with specialist shrink wrap.
The result was a covered, weather-resistant environment that could remain functional while we continued moving equipment and operations from our existing premises into the new yard.
Scope of Works
Whites Scaffolding designed and erected a large temporary roof scaffold across the main working area of the new yard.
The project included:
- Construction of the supporting scaffold structure.
- Installation of the temporary roof.
- Full shrink wrap encapsulation.
- Protection of the working area from the weather.
- Maintaining vehicle and equipment access during the works.
- Phasing the installation around normal business operations.
The finished structure needed to provide extensive coverage without preventing the yard from continuing to function during the move.
The Challenge
The scale of the temporary roof was only one part of the challenge.
Whites Scaffolding was operating between its old and new yards throughout the project, meaning everyday business activities had to continue while the structure was being built.
Vehicles still needed to move through the site, deliveries needed to be received and large quantities of scaffolding equipment had to be transferred and organised.
At the same time, the temporary roof installation itself required a significant amount of material and careful planning.
Another key challenge was completing the project with a reduced number of operatives.
The team therefore needed to manage:
- A large temporary roof installation.
- Ongoing business operations.
- Vehicle movements through the yard.
- Equipment deliveries and collections.
- Movement and storage of scaffolding materials.
- The transition between the old and new premises.
- A limited number of operatives available for the project.
Careful sequencing was essential to prevent the installation from interfering unnecessarily with the day-to-day running of the business.
The Solution
Our team planned the temporary roof installation in stages so the yard could continue operating while the structure progressed.
The main scaffold was erected across the required working area before the roof was completed and enclosed using specialist shrink wrap.
The encapsulation created a more protected internal environment beneath the temporary structure, helping shield the working area from wind and rain during the move.
Vehicle access, deliveries and scaffold equipment movements were considered throughout the erection programme.
Rather than closing large sections of the yard unnecessarily, the installation was phased so operational areas could continue to be used wherever practical.
Despite working with a reduced team, our operatives progressed the structure efficiently while continuing to support the wider day-to-day activities of Whites Scaffolding.
Shrink Wrap Encapsulation
Once the temporary roof structure was complete, specialist shrink wrap was installed around the scaffold to create a fully enclosed working environment.
Shrink wrap provides a tightly fitted covering around the scaffold structure, helping protect the area beneath from changing weather conditions.
For the new yard, this provided several practical benefits:
- Increased protection from rain.
- Reduced exposure to wind.
- A more controlled working area.
- Protection for equipment and materials.
- Greater usability of the space during poor weather.
The encapsulation formed an important part of the project because the temporary roof was intended to provide a practical working environment rather than simply overhead cover.
Project Delivery
The complete temporary roof and shrink wrap installation was delivered within three weeks.
During that period, Whites Scaffolding continued operating while equipment, materials and business activities were transferred between the two sites.
Careful project phasing allowed the roof structure to progress without bringing normal operations to a halt.
This was particularly important because the new yard needed to become operational at the same time as the temporary scaffold structure was being constructed.
The Result
Whites Scaffolding successfully completed the temporary roof and shrink wrap encapsulation within the three-week programme.
The finished structure provides a large protected working environment at the new High Post yard, helping shield the main working area from changing weather conditions.
At the same time, the business continued operating throughout the move.
Vehicle movements, deliveries, scaffold equipment and everyday business activities were maintained while the structure was erected around them.
The project demonstrates Whites Scaffolding’s ability to deliver substantial temporary roof and encapsulation projects where construction work needs to be carefully coordinated around an active commercial environment.
Temporary Roof and Shrink Wrap Scaffolding
Temporary roofs can provide valuable protection where construction, refurbishment or commercial operations need to continue while part of a site remains exposed.
Combined with shrink wrap encapsulation, they can create a substantially more protected environment beneath the scaffold.
Whites Scaffolding can provide temporary roof and encapsulation solutions for projects including:
- Commercial refurbishment.
- Roofing projects.
- Building extensions.
- Weather-sensitive construction.
- Industrial maintenance.
- Property renovation.
- Temporary covered working areas.
