We aim to minimise the environmental impact of our scaffolding operations and continually improve our environmental performance.

This policy outlines our commitments to responsible resource use, pollution prevention, waste management and sustainability across all business activities.

1. Our Environmental Commitment

2. Environmental Objectives

3. Responsibilities

3.1 Director Responsibilities

The Director of White’s Scaffolding Ltd is responsible for:

• Implementing the Environmental Policy across the organisation.
• Ensuring compliance with environmental legislation.
• Providing resources required to meet environmental objectives.
• Monitoring environmental performance and identifying improvements.
• Ensuring waste is managed legally and responsibly.

3.2 Supervisor Responsibilities

Supervisors must:

• Ensure environmental controls are in place on all sites.
• Monitor and reduce unnecessary fuel use, waste and emissions.
• Ensure materials are stored and handled safely to prevent spillage or pollution.
• Report and record environmental incidents or near misses.
• Communicate environmental requirements to operatives and subcontractors.

3.3 Employee Responsibilities

All employees must:

• Follow environmental procedures and training.
• Reduce energy, fuel and material waste wherever possible.
• Segregate waste correctly.
• Avoid contamination of drains, watercourses and land.
• Report environmental concerns or incidents immediately.

4. Waste Management

White’s Scaffolding Ltd follows the waste hierarchy: Reduce → Reuse → Recycle → Recover → Dispose.

We will:

• Reduce waste generation through efficient planning.
• Reuse scaffold boards, tubes, fittings and components where safe and appropriate.
• Recycle metal, timber, packaging and other recyclable materials.
• Dispose of waste via licensed waste carriers only.
• Maintain accurate waste transfer notes in line with UK regulations.
• Prevent fly-tipping and ensure no unauthorised waste disposal occurs.

5. Pollution Prevention

We aim to prevent pollution through:

• Safe fuel, oil and chemical storage in designated, bunded areas.
• Immediate spill response procedures.
• Avoiding contamination of soil, drains and watercourses.
• Reducing noise pollution by using maintained equipment.
• Minimising dust through responsible material handling.
• Reducing vehicle idling to decrease emissions.

Any pollution incidents will be reported, documented and investigated to prevent recurrence.

6. Sustainable Resource Use

• Ensure subcontractors follow the same environmental standards.

9. Monitoring & Continuous Improvement

To ensure ongoing improvement, we will:

• Identify opportunities for improvement and implement changes.
• Review environmental incidents and take corrective action.

10. Policy Review

This Environmental Policy will be reviewed annually or following significant changes in operations, legislation or environmental impact.

11. Policy Approval

This Environmental Policy is fully supported by the Director of White’s Scaffolding Ltd. All employees and subcontractors must comply with this policy.
