Project Name: MYCO Project
Date: September 2025
Location: Basingstoke
Client: Builder
Sector: Residential Construction
Type of Scaffolding: Progressive independent scaffolding
Scope of Works: Flat build and render works
Duration on Site: 9 months
Project Overview
Whites Scaffolding were appointed to design and install a progressive independent scaffold to support the safe construction of a new block of flats in Basingstoke. The development required a dependable access system that could evolve alongside the build, allowing trades to work safely as the structure increased in height.
From the beginning, the objective was clear — provide secure, adaptable scaffolding that supported each stage of construction, from initial block work through to roofing and full external rendering. Large residential builds demand forward planning, and this project was no exception.
Understanding the Requirement
The scaffold needed to function as more than simple access. It had to grow with the building, maintaining safe working platforms while accommodating changing site conditions. As the block rose level by level, our progressive scaffold ensured operatives could continue their work without interruption.
The system allowed bricklayers to advance the structure efficiently, supported roofing teams once the upper levels were reached, and later provided consistent access for render works across the exterior. By planning ahead, we helped create a workflow that felt organised and safe rather than reactive.
Challenges and Solutions
Ground conditions presented the primary challenge on this project. Stable foundations are essential for any scaffold, particularly on a long-term build where the structure remains in place for months.
Before erection began, we carefully assessed the ground to ensure it could support the load requirements of a progressive scaffold. Appropriate base measures were implemented to improve stability and maintain structural integrity throughout the project lifecycle.
Another important consideration was site safety over an extended period. To support this, we installed a rubbish chute that directed debris straight into a designated skip. This simple but effective addition helped keep working platforms clear, reduced trip hazards, and aligned fully with health and safety guidance.
Scope of Work Delivered
The scaffold was erected specifically to support the safe construction of the flat block from start to finish. Its progressive design meant it could be raised in phases as the building developed, ensuring continuous protection and reliable access for all trades involved.
Weekly inspections were carried out across the nine-month programme. These checks confirmed the scaffold remained compliant, secure, and suitable for ongoing use. Regular monitoring is particularly important on longer projects, where consistent safety standards help prevent avoidable risks.
The layout also allowed materials to be handled efficiently while maintaining clear walkways for operatives. By keeping platforms organised and hazard-free, productivity remained steady across each construction stage.
Safety First Approach
Safety remained central throughout this project. Progressive scaffolding requires careful oversight, and our inspection routine ensured every section met the required standards before being used.
The addition of the rubbish chute strengthened site safety further by controlling waste and preventing debris from accumulating on working lifts. Cleaner platforms support safer movement, which benefits everyone on site.
Our team stayed attentive from erection through to the final phases of the build, ensuring the scaffold continued to perform exactly as intended.
The Outcome
The MYCO project was successfully supported with a strong, adaptable scaffold that kept pace with construction from the early groundwork through to the final render. The client benefited from safe, uninterrupted access across every stage, helping the build progress smoothly.
This project highlights the value of progressive scaffolding on multi-storey residential developments. When access evolves with the structure, trades can focus fully on their work, timelines remain achievable, and safety stays firmly in place.
